Telly Savalas (born Aristotelis Savalas on January 21, 1922 in Garden City, New York) was an American actor who was well-known for his role as Lieutenant Theo Kojak on the CBS network series, "Kojak."
Savalas' film roles include "On Her Majesty's Secret Service," "Alcatraz," "The Greatest Story Ever Told," "The Dirty Dozen," "Kelly's Heroes," "Lisa and the Devil," "Birdman of Alcatraz" and "Escape to Athena."
On January 22, 1994, Savalas died from complications of bladder and prostate cancer at the Sheraton-Universal Hotel in Universal City, California at the age of 72.
